haha I am painfully behind in sharing my experience with the 31 day studio tour. There has been some technical issues with the site and many other projects on the go, without giving you all my excuses here are my experiences at some more amazing classes!
Let’s rewind a little, seems like so long ago…
Monday April 1st
Holiday Monday made the perfect day to try my hand at circus yoga and Anita Mcfarlen was the perfect lady to teach me. Anita gave me a one-on-one circus yoga class at the beach; so much fun. I have tried some circus yoga before, well one time… and it is challenging. It requires a tremendous amount of trust in your partner and a lot of strength. I was scared to try some of the lifts and we were only working on basics but Anita was solid and made me feel secure enough to try. I had so much fun as we went through a series I found myself having more and more fun. I learned that I will have to be willing to fall if I am going to progress, there were no falls today but I think this extends to other areas of my life…
Tuesday April 2nd
I had many people suggesting I attend Naresh Ron Kings’s class. Tuesday morning I went to Trinity Yoga Centre to see what the buzz was about. This class is 1.5 hrs making it a little longer than most of the classes I have been attending lately and started with breath work that I don’t usually see in public classes. Naresh is wise, he holds the space so nicely and while he moves slowly and is so gentle with his students the class is not easy. I had the delight of experiencing postures I had not seen before and I always love new postures and transitions. I heard this class is always something different I have much to learn here.
Wednesday April 3rd
I was scheduled to hit up Bikram yoga at the Cove on the Westside but they had to cancel so I went to Kelowna Hot Yoga. I met Stephen for the noon class and what do you know he is Birkam trained and the class had many similarities. The sequence seemed familiar from Bikram just shorter since the noon class is only 45 min. To be honest that was enough for me, I am loving this tour but I was tired and it was very hot. Stephen was clear in his cues but there were no adjustments. Since you are welcome to stay in shavasana as long as you wish I didn’t want to disturb the people staying longer so no picture, you will just have to go meet Stphen and check out the studio for yourself!
Pilates! I know it is not yoga but I was invited and have always wanted to try Pilates with the machines so today was the day! I met Sharon at Neumovement and was taking the advanced class, so I was worried I would be holding everyone back since the classes are capped at 4. With a little extra attention from Sharon and lots of encouragement from the other ladies,I felt welcome. My yoga experience helped but I was really aware of weakens in my core. Sharon is hilarious and the group was a lot of fun. I enjoyed the social aspect, unlike yoga there was some conversation, chitchat, and complaining! I would love to make Neumovement Pilates a regular part of my practice since the fine muscle control would be effective in furthering my physical yoga practice.
Saturday April 6th
I woke up this morning so tired you can tell from that picture that I was exhausted, but thanks to this challenge I was off to Trinity again this time Elaine was the instructor. I had never taken a class with Elaine before so had no idea what to expect. This class was just what I needed. The music was lovely and the studio was bright yet calm. Class was full but there was a calming energy which is exactly what I needed. The class was gentle, focusing on breath and I left feeling restored. Elaine has a sweet energy, she is caring and she showed concern for every single student in the room. I felt supported in class.
Sunday April 7th
A 3 hr practice, why not? Dana Skoglund mentioned the idea of teaching Eye of the Tiger a 3 hr practice to me a long time ago and I loved it! This was so exciting and delicious. I loved every minute of this class and didn’t want it to end, the three hrs went by quickly, I think it was because the class was not designed to me hard it was designed to be complete. Starting with a few sun salutations to warm up, inversions, standing postures and balance postures, arm balances, back bends floor work and a sweet shavasana. It was amazing!!! I have been working on drop backs but with tightness in my back I have not been able to execute it, today was the day I did it! My body had time to open and get ready for it, it was awesome. I cannot wait for the next one!!! More about the class in a future post!
Monday April 8th
Joining some friends out in Winfield at Bodyz in Motion tonight I took class with Louise. I teach here as well so it was fun to be a student along with the other students. Louise has a big personality and creates a relaxed fun atmosphere. With strong focus on alignment Louise takes good care of her students and gives lovely hands on adjustments. she is also very good at offering levels, nice for an all levels class. I felt that I was able to push my limits in some poses working with some binds and twists that I rarely see. Louise is bright; she is sweet, caring and funny. Her classes have a great energy as she teaches from her heart.
