Hey, I’m Erin! Thanks for wanting to help, or wanting to hear my story:)
I’m trying to raise money for my yoga Teacher Trainings (200hr and Pre/Post-Natal). I would love to be able to share my love of yoga with others on a volunteer basis at The Malachite House or any of the outreach centres, as well as deepen my own knowledge about the human (and pregnant human) body. Anything helps, even if I can raise 10%, I’ll be so grateful for your support and trust in me and my dream.
I have chosen the most affordable, yet well accredited programs I can find. The Pre-Natal Yoga Teacher Training is through the Get Bent rec centre by Boho Birth ($350) April 12-14 2014.
for the 200 HR teacher training, after hours of deliberation.. We (Jonny will be completing his 200hr training with me!) decided on Mount Madonna Institute. I’m very excited to learn all they have to offer us, especially about Ayurveda, pranayama and meditation. This one is $3172 June 20- July 27.
End goal: I am applying to midwifery school this fall and *fingers crossed* will be a midwife in the next 5-6 years. In the meantime, I’d like to learn as much as I can about pregnancy outside of midwifery school, and explore the world a little. I would love to open a practice very similar to malachite in a more remote location where midwifery is not yet an option. I want to give northern aboriginal women another (more traditional) option, if they would like to be given an option. I’d love to marry my love of yoga and midwifery with a practice that involves a yoga studio and classes suited to pregnant families. I want to promote health, trust and choice.
I would love your support:
This is Jonny and I doing a few acro yoga poses. We love how much it challenges us physically as well as how we communicate with each other. We have to completely trust one another. I can’t wait to experience a classical ashtanga yoga teacher training with him in the amazing california.
Jonny Karroll is 24 and grew up in kelowna. He’s been a musician all his life and quite active with martial arts and he enjoyed hot yoga on occasion. We met May 2012 and I brought him to “mat2mat” yoga across the bridge by lululemon and the hotbox for one of our first dates and the rest is history.
I have been practicing yoga since I was 15 and struggled with major body issues. Yoga helped me listen to what my body was telling me and I got better. I was studying for med school when I was a passenger of a serious car accident in June 2012. I got through it with Jonny and a daily yoga practice. Today, I focus my energy on studying for midwifery and yoga. I volunteer at Malachite Midwifery and I’m a DOÑA trained doula and my BHAG is to own a small midwifery house with a yoga studio included. I would offer yoga classes for different stages of pregnancy and postnatal and Jonny wants to offer a Strong Dad class and some kids classes. Together we’d like to develop a partner yoga birth class to help incorporate trust and communication and wellness for pregnancy and parenthood.
Jonny took this picture of me this summer on okanagan lake. That was my Tropical Rogue board I got from the lovely folks at Kalavida surf shop in Vernon. I feel so at peace on the water. I’d like to offer a zen prenatal SUP class in the future.
