DETAILS OF EACH SECTION:
The Subtle Body.
When we first begin our journey in yoga, we learn how to move from the physical body, the next step is moving from ‘the bliss body’. Everything in this world is made of energy, which can be defined most simply as “information that vibrates” (Cyndi Dale). The human body is made of 72,000 nadis/energy lines. By understanding the subtlest levels of reality one gains mastery over the physical realm. This class will take you on a journey into the subtle body. Expect a vinyasa flow, just in a different context. This class will incorporate kriyas (purifications) from the Satayanada lineage and Shiva Rea’s Prana Flow Yoga.
Angels & Arm Balances
Where does the ability to float come from? Where can our tapas (effort) take us? The more we connect to our roots, the easier it is for us to fly.
This arm balancing workshop will help connect you to your roots in order for you take flight. We will work on creating a stronger connection with our legs and with the first two bandhas (locks) while in the vinyasa (flow). From there, we will explore many different arm balances. This workshop is open to all levels.
The Art Of Sequencing
This workshop is for anyone with a strong yoga practice or yoga teachers who are looking to deepen their understanding of how to create a vinyasa (flow). This workshop will both benefit your own home practice as well as enrich your teaching skills.
This workshop will include:
• Discussion of how to create classes based both on sequencing around “peak poses” as well as based on “element or feeling”
• Group practice sessions creating sequences based on peak poses and themes
• Learning to think and work outside your comfort zone
• Dynamic suggestions to break through a stale home practice or teaching style
Yoga Trance Dance
All breath driven movements can liberate one’s creative life-force and cultivate embodied freedom. Created by Shiva Rea, Yoga Trance Dance is a meeting of two great rivers, yoga and dance, which come from and are united at the source.Yoga and dance are two of the oldest paths back home. Yoga Trance Dance flows from yoga asanas into free form movements and back again.
Hips Class Ganesha Flow
Ganesha, the elephant deity, is known for removing obstacles in our path so that we may clearly see the way. Many of our ‘obstacles’ rest in the hips and pelvic region. This deep hip opening class will focus on releasing hip flexers, quads and gluts so that you may move more freely on your path. Open to all levels.
I have danced my whole life, whether it’s been grooving to a good song, taking dance classes or flowing through a vinyasa, my body can’t get enough. Through movement, I feel as though I’m communing with the Divine.
I took my first vinyasa class in 2000 at Jivamukti Yoga Center. I had a feeling of arriving home. We moved through postures seamlessly with an emphasis of breath-body connection. The class gave me what the dance world didn’t, an emphasis on the internal journey.
I received my 200 hour Vinyasa certification with Lauren Hanna at Sonic Yoga NYC in 2003. I met Shiva Rea shortly thereafter and again, felt as though I had come home. Shiva had created a language for the kind of movement I’ve been doing my whole life. She, too, understood the idea of fluidity. Our bodies yearn to move like water and when we do, our bodies hum with excitement. I’ve completed my 300 hour Prana Flow Certfication with Shiva.
I thank all my teachers for sharing their passion of this practice with me: David Life for opening my heart, Stacey Brass for her minute cues that have changed me life, Uma for opening my voice, Dana Flynn for throwing out all the rules and inspiring me to do the same, Constantine Darling for showing me another way, and Paul Ortega for reminding me we are ALL the cosmic dancer.
I invite you to be playful in your practice, remembering that lightness is found in spirit!
Tickets will be on sale here February 15th – space is limited.
